This is Travellin' Bob

When I first started writing this thing, way back in September 2010, my first post was titled "What's it all about, Alfie?"    It basically re-hashed and updated a couple of Facebook posts I had done sometime before (their 10 Things... game - you may remember it).  I hadn't taken them seriously, and carried the mood over into this opening to the blog.  At the time I called it "Around the World in 80 Expense Claims" , as it was a new hobby to pursue in the more boring days at work.  At that time, I was working as a Business Consultant for a major banking software provider, and was on the road pretty much all the time - I was working in Port of Spain, Trinidad, then.

Now many years later, and with around 150 posts, I figured it was probably time to update that intro - especially as I recently re-branded the thing.


So.…...

This is me - recent pic, of course.  With my bike.

I'm retired now and my globe-trotting days are coming to end - I'll still be out and about, but as I won't be able to expense anything I'll neither be going so far nor so often.  This is why I changed the name of the blog to The World According to Travellin' Bob, and expanded the content to move it away from simply travel stuff to.....well, a world of stuff.   But that's all explained in the March 2019 posts.

What else?  Well, I'm happily married and have a growing family: three adult sons with my three grandchildren between them back in Blighty, plus two school age kids here in Poland, where I've lived since 2000.  Love 'em all to bits, and so proud.  Love cycling as you can see, and also hiking (both activities keep my dodgy hips from seizing up completely), an avid reader of all kinds, fiction and non-fiction (especially history and politics - as you will see if you dig into my blog output over last couple of years!) and love my music - Pink Floyd in the background as I write. Football fan and keen supporter of Ebbsfleet United in the English National League - for the uninitiated that's the fifth tier of the pyramid.

Oh, and I write, obviously.  This, plus a complete but unpublished novel about sex, booze and football.  Battling with a memoir.  So I keep busy.  I'm very happy and contented with my life, though it would be nice to be wealthy.  C'est la vie.
